One Nation pushing anti-trans division and men’s rights
Greg Jericho
In the Finance Committee, One Nation Senator Tyron Whitten has decided because the Office of Women is being questioned he needs to ask about the definition of a woman.
He wants Senator Katy Gallagher to answer whether the government will change its language around “lactating person” and other gender-neutral terms.
Senator Gallagher replies that she seeks
to be respectful to all individuals regardless of how they identify, and I think some of the debates that people try to draw into a difficult, divisive and harmful, and so I prefer to have a more inclusive way of operating. That language doesn’t bother me”
Senator Whitten takes slight umbrage at this as though she is implying he is not. He says “I also try and be respectful. But I have a mother, a sister, a wife, I’ve got two daughters, I got a granddaughter, and they expect me to ask questions like this”
I mean. Cripes.
He keeps going asking questions that are about legal issue and thus not at all a matter for the committee (One Nation were on this same issue yesterday to the Attorney General Department and it was just as gross).
He then asks with a smugness that women have to put up with daily, “How are we going for an Office for Men”?
Yep we’re at the “Wait, there’s an International Women’s Day, when is the International Men’s Day??? Level of debate (It’s 19 November for those of you who celebrate).
Senator Gallagher notes that the Member for Hunter, Dan Repacholi, was appointed as the Special Envoy for Men’s Health – the first ever such appointment and that he’s doing a great job.
Senator Whitten replies “And how are we going for an Office for Men?”
To do what pray tell? Ensure the gender pay gap is bigger? Ensure more men get away with sexual violence to women? This is really just One Nation’s Family Court Day crud that everything is bad because poor men have had to give up too much to women. Seriously this just makes me want to vomit.
He ends by saying “I think the men’s issues and men’s problems are growing by the day [he doesn’t say what these are] and it would be worthy of an Office for Men because it would actually make women’s live better if we had better men, so I’ll leave it at that.”

This is idiotic.
Brilliant as always Fiona.
When has any debate been improved by attacking the individual?
Honestly, Angus Taylor is a man who could not even bring himself to support consent education in the context of two alleged gang rapes perpetrated by two separate groups of boys from two separate boys schools... yet he will happily make totally erroneous claims about a lack of patriotism leading to violence. T
He has chosen a side and it is not with victim/survivors or just people that support basic decency.
Is it just me or does it still say Monday at the top?
Not just you - am working on a fix x
Thanks!
Yay! It's tuesday!
Amy, it could have been worse - possibly the cat was just reflecting on the coming horror of any intervention into parliamentary business by Sarah Henderspon - enough to give you the serious irrits,.
But think, what if you had a fabulous art collection and walked into the gallery to find a clawed Monet?
Ok, I'll take myself out...
